Fraught Fellowships, Vol. 2: Ad Arcanum (for Vaesen)

In this exciting new series from Melpomene Games (authors of three Vaesen Mysteries, 'The Gold in the Green', 'The Double', and 'The Devil Take Order'), new factions for the world of Vaesen are introduced. Each volume of Fraught Fellowships focuses on a unique type of faction, presents details on each, along with example NPCs, new mechanics, and story seeds. A new mechanic called Favor is used to provide a currency for interacting with these factions.

The second volume, Ad Arcanum, focuses on magic items. It introduces two unique factions with very different goals concerning magic artifacts, a Favor system that rewards engagement with each, and the biggest new feature - a system for making your own magic items! The system works through a series of steps to generate a Value level, and one or more magical effects with corresponding Risks, and a random Theme and Form to give the item substance. Then we go one step further: we introduce new mechanics for Limitations to make the items more constrained in their use - often in ways that clever players can overcome or work around. Finally, some items will become Sentient, meaning that they have their own willpower and goals, and will try to influence bearers! Four large tables and a procedural system is made to guide Game Masters, and then a dozen unique magic items based on Nordic lore are provided with full stats.

The Shadow-Traders: a group of like-minded businessmen and industrialists who seek to covertly exchange magic items at a profit, and focused on exploiting magic items for their industrial uses.

The Temple of Uppsala: a religious group that seeks to understand the hidden purposes and wishes of magic items, so that their destinies can be fulfilled - whether or not the items' bearers like it!

Exquisite Crime asks players to harness their latent psychic abilities in order to solve mysteries ranging from the quirky to the surreal to the downright monstrous. Only those who are tapped into the paranormal can perceive the messages from beyond the veil. Will the players be able to translate those visions into sketches that will lead to the capture of the guilty party?

Every player contributes visually and narratively to this paranormal crime story as it unfolds, drawing sketches of the Victim, the Scene of the Crime, the Suspects, and the Witnesses. While investigating questions covering elements like: Means, Motive, and Opportunity— all the essential elements of any good crime story!

In this collaborative drawing and storytelling game, you take on the roles of a team of psychics who have been called upon to investigate crimes in a world where surreal phenomena happen right before your eyes - if you possess the abilities to see the so-called Overlap, that liminal space where things from beyond the veil cross over and blend in with our reality. 

Follow story prompts and draw or write what your psychic powers reveal to you in order to unfold each part of the mystery. You must work with your colleagues in the secretive Griffinfly Society, using your paranormal abilities to reveal the truth hidden beneath the lies the world presents to all but the most psychically attuned. Players collaborate to build the world they’re playing in using prompts, populating it with both the victims and the suspects to create a surreal crime story.

Haven Fallen - Solo Adventure - Crown Citadel

The Crown Citadel is located on Planet Brumzan in Parnathia and was once a celebrated palace on an overworld rarely frequented by the Parnun dynasties it was built for. A handful of Parnun Magic Users form the Council of Brum to aid and maintain the Crown Citadel, but its Zenith is the Formari Sky Sorceress Gilna Islefel. Zenith Islefel has spent two hundred years teaching at the Crown Citadel, and has influenced hundreds of prominent Magic Users, nurturing some of the brightest and best. The last few months have been a time of change for the Crown Citadel, with the Trinity Executive for Magical Resources taking an interest in Zenith Islefel and where true jurisdiction for the Citadel lies, and certain artifacts held there.

In Haven Fallen – Scrolls of Ela you assume the role of an adventurer in a Dark Science Fantasy setting. You will  require The Haven Fallen Core Rulebook (CRB), and any associated Expansions you wish to use to assist you, along with a pen and paper or word-processing document, to play.

The story is set up with an Introduction, a handful of location details and a few pertinent Story Points. The rest is down to you and your imagination.

The Actions you take should depend on who and what you see, and how you wish to interact. Keep a record of your story and adapt it as per the result of each Action. As you progress you will see that you are behaving as your own Storyteller, creating the interactive world in which you are playing.

Use the Character Creation section of the CRB to create your Character and use the Storyteller section of the CRB to assist with generating NPCs.

Once you have familiarised yourself with the  following few pages, you are ready to begin.
